hi!
I am SOOOOO happy!!!!
I have been working at the Pizza place for about 8 months, and I am bored out of my tree and frustrated. We're so short-staffed it's unreal, my schedule keeps getting messed up, and I honestly have had no life... I love the people I work with, which is the only thing really going for it.
On a whim, I started handing out resumes (one here, one there), being VERY choosy where I applied. I had a lot of difficulty applying for one job due to something with the application on their site, so I did a bit of digging and noticed that they had a job posting on Monster.ca. So I applied through that and didn't think anything about it... until like three weeks later they emailed me and requested a phone interview.
During said phone interview, I got complimented on my email professionalism, a good thing since this job is primarily done by email. I was then asked to come in for an in-person interview... so I packed up Jenny and we went down to the interview. Short of being FAR too interested in the Christmas tree, Jenny had perfect manners, curled up under the table and slept until a third person came in to the interview, and she startled and let out a "Woof!" In a room full of dog lovers, I explained my skills, what I needed, and thanked them profusely for ignoring the dog.
Within 4 hours I had received a formal application form requesting six references. I filled it out, and over the holiday season, I know two of my three personal references were contacted (not sure about my professional ones).
As of January 31, I will be leaving my current job and migrating to the new one, providing tech support for a software developer in the oil and gas sector. THis new job has a ton of perks, besides the obvious...
1) HUGE pay increase (50%)
2) normal hours
3) a challenge
4) 3 blocks from off-leash dog park
5) easy bus trip
6) Sounds like great people
7) Probably a bunch more that I can't think of right now.
I am so stoked it is not even funny!
Just had to share!
Kate
Congratulations! It sounds like a great job in many ways. I wish you the best of luck with it.
Nice going! Keep us posted with how it goes, won't you?
Congratulations! I hope it all works out for the best for you.
Swizzle! Smile.
Thanks for the congrats@ But... swizzle?
Kate
yeah, same question here to for real, but anything to make life a little more interesting, right?
good for you!
Congratulations! I've been following your employment journey on your other board post, and I'm glad to hear that things are moving in such a positive direction! Best wishes!
Becky
Sizzle. Sweet it means in the boring terms.
Yes make life more interesting. Almost anything.
Yea, CONGRATULATIONS! All the best to you! :)
Well, I have been here for two months, and it has been a wonderful experience. I work earlier than I thought I would, but it means I get home at 4:30PM, so I can have a life, make dinner, and just enjoy my evenings again.
The people are awesome, the job is quiet for now, and we've hit a snag in part of my duties... but this means that I can learn the system inside out, as well as draw up documentation on Helpdesk Ticket processing... something that hasn't been done yet.
The folks here are great with Jenny... a handful of people have interacted with her, but everyone's great about ignoring her. It's not uncommon for coworkers to see me do training exercises with her (finding chairs, food-avoidance, etc.), and my boss has been great about my taking a 10-15 minute walk outside with her if we both need it.
Overall, I am thrilled with my new job!
Kate
Thanks for the update. Otherwise I never would have read this topic.
Very congratz!

you're so lucky! I graduated in Italianistics last year, and am planning to continue with the masters as i'd like to work as a translator. If all goes well i can start the masters in September. But i've so much time till that! So i wanted to try how could i work from home but.. i didn't find anything! Just that mlm things but i hate those and got so angry.. I didn't want a full-time job yet, just wanted to try myself out in a field that wasnn't studying.. But hopefully i'll have more possibility if i become a translator *smiles*
I wish you a lot of great experiences with your new job!
Annie
Heya, Annie,
Good luck with finding a job! I hope you find something. For what it's worth, sometimes any experience is better than none, so even if you find something part-time for the summer between university semesters, it would be a great thing!
I completely agree with you about MLM systems... the only people who benefit are the high-up execs!
Good luck, and thanks for the congrats!
Kate
Congratulations on the new job.
